Pre Rally before the 2008 FMCA 80th International Convention July 14 thru 17, 2208, Minnesota State Fairgrounds, St. Paul, Minnesota

Travel at your own pace and enjoy the many sites between New England and the home of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, the Twins and least we not forget Fran Tarkenton and Kevin McHale. The Studebaker Museum in South Bend, IN held a special interest for me.

And plan on joining us:
Friday July 11th at the Minneapolis Southwest KOA in Jordan, MN as we make final preparations to caravan into the 2008 rally site on Saturday, July 12th.
Check in after 1300 hours but don’t be late for the 1530 hours “Happy/Cocktail Hour” and maybe a potluck supper, only after we all get “Happy!” More details in 2008.
We have made reservations for ten (10) sites. Don’t wait, we already have five (5) member families signed up and you can add your name to the list by contacting us.
Once we have the ten sites spoken for, individuals will be placed on a waiting list in event there is a cancellation. If we have enough interest I may still be able to get a couple of additional sites.
Sites will have full hook-ups, most with 50 amp but 2 or 3 of the sites will have 30 amp service. If you are okay with the 30 amp service please indicate.
There is wireless internet, a pool to cool off in and a casino just a short distance away.
Please provide your F#, Name, Address, Telephone Number or email address and desired electrical service, in any communication.

Directions to the Mineapolis Southwest KOA Campground

Note: It is about 1450 miles from Manchester to the KOA by way of I-90 / I-80. This route has toll roads and goes right through Chicago, not to mention the infamous Minneapolis bridges.
Here's an alternate route suggestion. Several years ago, your webmaster went west to Mt. Rushmore. The object was to avoid tolls and Chicago. We (my brother and his wife in their Bounder, and I, in my old Flair) went out throgh Pennsylvania on I-80, got on I-76 in Ohio, to I-71 south. In Mansfield Ohio, we took US 30 west, the historic Lincoln Highway. Just before the Indiana state line we cut off onto US 224 to US 24, and followed 24 into Illinois. In Peoria we followed I 74 to I-80 in Davenport Iowa, then on I-80 over to Omaha Nebraska. This got us past Chicago without tolls.
Following this alternate route suggestion, get off of I-80 at exit 239B just past Iowa City, Iowa, and on to I-380 north to US 18 and then to I-35 north. I-35 will take you to the Minneapolis- St. Paul area. Get off of I-35W at exit 3B (Savage) and that road will take you over to the US 169 four-lane and to the KOA, and no Minneapolis bridges to cross. This alternate route is only 130 miles longer than the I-90 / I-80 route, but no tolls and no Chicago.

      This from the FMCA site:

"FMCA’s 80th International Convention will take place on the grounds of the Minnesota State Fair. The last FMCA international convention held at this facility was in 1980. Renovations to many of Minnesota State Fairground’s facilities have taken place within the past few years, providing some outstanding exhibit and seminar space. Como Park--home to the last free zoo in the United States, a conservatory gardens, Japanese Gardens, Cafesjian’s Carousel, waterfalls, amusement rides, a picnic area, and even an 18-hole golf course--is located across the street from the fairgrounds."

We must arrive together at the FMCA convention to park together, and you must be pre-registered to come in with the caravan.
